New Hot Water and Heating Upgrade to West Midlands Care Home
A three-storey care home in Coventry, West Midlands, has upgraded its hot water and heating system to provide a more reliable and comfortable environment for approximately 50 residents across 46 apartments. The new solution consists of two 120 kW Evo S wall hung boilers and two 120 kW WaterMaster Evo gas fired water heaters.
For any care setting, reliable hot water and heating are essential to residents’ comfort, safety and wellbeing. However, the home’s existing system - two domestic heat-only boilers paired with two 300L thermal stores - struggled to keep up with demand and was prone to breakdowns. The area’s hard water also accelerated scaling and corrosion within the system. This led to inconsistent hot water and repeated emergency callouts, causing disruption to both residents and staff.
To address these issues, Evo S boilers were selected for their stainless steel heat exchangers, which provide increased protection against corrosion while offering durability and reliable performance. This helps reduce faults and the need for emergency maintenance. For the hot water system, WaterMaster Evo gas-fired condensing water heaters were chosen to provide a consistent supply, even during periods of high demand. Their tank-in-tank technology enables rapid recovery and high volumes of continuous hot water, helping to ensure a reliable supply for residents.
The installation also included high-grade stainless steel circulators, ancillary components, side-stream filtration and integration with a new Building Management System (BMS) for smooth operation and simplified maintenance.
Working together with contractor Dodd Group Ltd., the new commercial hot water and heating system was installed by Safeguard P.H.M.E Ltd., in the buildings ground floor plant room, with minimal disruption to staff and residents.
